GoR, amuse-bouche #8

Gaius, Bryaxis, and Simon. Spoilers for Book 1. The murder mystery begins to unravel. 😀

“You two have been scouring Luc’s papers for how many days now? Twelve, is it? For fuck’s sake, Alle has nearly tamed that damn feral horse in less time. What have you found, Bryaxis?”

“So far, only trial transcripts and letters, sir. Dom’s notations on everything we’ve examined so far appear insignificant.”

“Were any of those letters from me?”

“Yes, Commander. I took the liberty of gathering your letters to Dom and placing them into a separate batch. They’re in the box on the floor here.”

“Did you read them?”

“No, sir.”

“Liar.” Gaius scoffed with a slight smirk before he picked up the box to rummage through its contents. “Shit, some of these are ancient. Here’s one I’d sent to him shortly after I’d arrived in Macedonia. Lucius had taken a brief leave from his studies to return to Rome for his father’s funeral.”

“Dom purchased me at auction during that visit,” Bry added, before quickly shutting his mouth and handing Simon another document to inspect.

Poor Simon, probably has never been at the end of Gaius’ disappointment…probably hasn’t seen the less ‘sexy’ side of him either…I think. I wonder are both Gaius and Bryaxis completely ignoring the fact that Bryaxis refuses to call Gaius Dominus? Maybe out of respect for Lucius?

So true about Simon. He’s been very pampered and he’s so young — perhaps not chronologically but emotionally.

Yup, I think they’re both skirting the issue now out of respect for Luc.
