The materfamilias was the woman in charge of a Roman household. In the Dominus universe, Marcia is the Domina and materfamilias of Gaius’s household. However, the materfamilias supreme was, of course, Memmia Cornelia, Gaius’s paternal grandmother (his Avia). She ruled the clan (the Roman gens) with a stern but loving skeletal finger. Memmia, bless her crotchety old heart, will be a part of this saga until the very end.
Alas, the beloved materfamilias of our RL clan passed away a couple of days ago. She lived a full and love-filled life, though not one without its hardships, heartaches, and sacrifices. As a result, I am far from home and I haven’t written anything in a few days. I’m still hopeful I’ll be able to publish Games of Rome by early September, but I won’t rush and release substandard work. SO much delicious insanity happens in Book 2, and I need to get it right. The characters, the story, and my readers deserve the very best I can offer. Please bear with me, and thank you for your understanding.
This Saturday on the Ides of August is the COVER REVEAL!!! I’ll post details here very soon. Fiona’s artwork for this cover is breathtaking. We can’t wait to share it with you all.
Hug your loved ones, often.
